Faith-Culture-Imagination
Curious about how they fit together...
IN THE PRESS
“
Every now and then a book comes along which demands serious attention. Ted Turnau’s Popologetics is just such a book.
I know readers often skip to the bottom of a review, scanning for the words “in summary” or “therefore, I think . . . .” But I’m going to go ahead and give you that takeaway up front: Read this book. If you’re one who scoffs at pop culture, read this book. If you’re one who thinks you have a grasp on pop culture, read this book. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Turnau's book become a classic in its genre, perhaps on par with James Sire’s The Universe Next Door.
“
I cannot exaggerate how useful and necessary I think this volume is for parents and carers. It deserves to be bought in quantity and handed out to every parent in your church. If applied, I can see the principles laid out here raising up a generation who are confident in speaking into culture and understanding the cultural air they breathe. This can only be a good thing.
“
There is a
great deal of helpful material here which positively engages with all forms
ancient and modern from a range of viewpoints, quoting a wide variety of
scholars and practitioners, rather than the usual Inklings suspects. Turnau
has read impressively widely and his passion for his subject, as well as the
glory of Christ in the Church, is evident.

About me
Hi. My name is Ted Turnau, and you've stumbled across my website. Congrats. I'm a college lecturer who teaches Cultural Studies, Media Studies, Religion, and Social Theory at Anglo-American University in Prague, Czech Republic. I've been interested for a long time about issues of popular culture, imagination, and how they relate to the Christian faith. I think the answer has something to do with apologetics (hence the title of my first book).
I'm married to Carolyn and have been for over thirty years. It's been delightful. And we have three awesome (now adult) kids. We also have three cats named Loki and Saffron (both Joss Whedon characters), and Sophie.
We love having students over to our house to watch movies, talk about stuff, eat stuff, drink stuff.
Have a look around and check out the resources and check out the resources. I love equipping Christians to related to culture in healthy, God-honoring, and creative ways.
